THE JUNIOR HIGH (SECONDARY) SCHOOL IN TWARDORZECZKA, POLAND
The Junior High School in Twardorzeczka is situated in southern Poland, near the tourist resort of Żywiec. Its unique location at the foot of green peaks of the Beskidy Mountains makes it a fabulous place to be educated. It is a medium-sized school aiming to deliver the highest quality of teaching to its 449 students. Considerable efforts are made to enable students to take full advantage of the passion and knowledge of the 35 well-qualified teachers. The facilities of the school include 2 language classrooms complete with multimedia equipment, computer lab, and library as well as well-equipped classrooms for teaching other subjects.
The Headmaster and the teaching staff are passionate about emphasizing the importance of foreign language teaching at the school. The students are able to learn English as well as German and are keen to put their language skills into use. Students take part in various extracurricular activities involving foreign languages such as staging plays, writing poems or attending language competitions.
Sports and tourism are other fields which the school specializes in. The facilities include sports hall, gymnasium, athletics track and handball pitch. Willing students can attend extra physical education classes as well as use the facilities in their own time. The school's exceptional setting makes it a gateway to the Beskidy Mountains. Students and teachers take part in a number of hiking trips each year, admiring the landscape and getting to know nature first hand whilst keeping fit. The proximity to the great cultural centre of Kraków enables students to develop their feel for culture and fine arts. A visit to nearby Oświecim, the site of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz is an unforgettable experience for everyone.
The students are encouraged by the school to pursue their extracurricular interests. There is a European Club devoted to getting to know different cultures and ways of life and promoting European values. The latest addition to the range of facilities is an astronomical observatory in which star-gazers converge. Students can contribute to the school paper, join the hiking club, various sports associations, the school choir or even a moped-lovers society.
The school is also equipped with a modern CCTV system with 20 cameras surveying the school to make sure the students are safe at all times. The students have access to the on-site psychological help and a trained nurse as well.
